I found a really cheap set of Hella Optilux driving lights the other day. For 20 bucks I got everything I need except the bracket and the time to install 'em.
On Saturday, July 28 2007 I actually began this project. After pondering my options, I decided to go with steel rather than aluminum. Why? Because I have literally everything I need in-house already. This project is going to require welding, and I don't feel like dropping 75 bucks in order to save spending 75 bucks.
My basic concept is to hang a rod directly underneath the top portion of the 'beak' front fender. The beak is held on by four screws (#5 in the first diagram below) that go directly into a nice strong piece of steel (#1 in the second diagram below). The only real trick is ensuring that there is no interference from lock-to-lock and along the entire path of suspension travel.
The first big chunk is up, now we're just waiting on the electrical stuff.
And now, on to the project.
