OK, Now that I knew how to run the communication cables, I needed to hook up the bike power harness. The unit comes with both a 9 volt adapter and a bike harness. There's a quick-release inside so that you can switch from one to the other
Then you just plug in the bike power adapter. They are wired differently, the Autocom is smart enough to have auto-off when the rider's headset is not plugged in, if running off a nine-volt. I guess they figured that's unnecessary when running on bike power, and testing has shown that it does indeed remain alive on bike power if only the passenger is connected.
That little round white doohickey to the left of the power plug is the VOX-control. You adjust this setting in an attempt to make speaking relatively effortless but without picking up extraneous noise. I find that it's pretty much a 'desired cruising speed' dial, since wind noise seems to be the biggest issue (at least for my MX-style helmet!)
That's where I found that the bike harness interferes with closing the cover.
I guess they have that there in case you want to just use it as a portable device. Well, that's not how I'm using it, so action must be taken:
And that was that, easy as pie. Actually, I did clean up the edge a bit with a sharp blade, but it came off looking pretty clean.
